OPENING NIGHT IS THURSDAY, APRIL 2nd AT 7 P.M.

TICKETS ON SALE NOW AT WWW.THEATRESOURCE.ORG

BOO-Arts Productions is pleased to announce their production of George Bernard Shaw’s MRS. WARREN’S PROFESSION, directed by Kathleen O’Neill. MRS. WARREN’S PROFESSION will play a three-week limited engagement at Manhattan Theatre Source (177 MacDougal Street, New York, NY 10011). Performances begin Wednesday, April 1st and continue through Saturday, April 18th. Opening Night is Thursday, April 2nd (7 p.m.).

*Press are cordially invited: Thursday, April 2nd at 7pm; Friday, April 3rd at 8pm and Saturday, April 4th at 8pm. (Non-official press dates may be accommodated upon request.)

Mrs. Warren is the proprietress of a string of highly successful brothels. Her daughter, Vivie, is a modern young woman, but not so modern that she can ignore the source of her mother's wealth. The clash of these two strong-willed and culturally constrained Victorian women is the spark that ignites the ironic wit of one of George Bernard Shaw's greatest plays. Initially banned after its 1893 publication for its startling frankness, Mrs. Warren's Profession, a withering critique of male domination, sexual hypocrisy, and societal convention, remains a provocative and powerful work of progressive theater.

The production stars Joy Franz (Original Broadway productions of Pippin, Musical Chairs, Open Admissions and Into The Woods; Broadway revivals of Guys & Dolls and Into The Woods) in the role of Mrs. Warren.

Costume design is by David Withrow (IT Award recipient for Bug Boy Blues).

MRS. WARREN’S PROFESSION plays the following regular schedule through Saturday, April 18th:

Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
Thursdays at 7 p.m.
Fridays at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $18 and are now available online at www.TheatreSource.org or by calling 212-501-4751. Tickets may also be purchased in-person at the Manhattan Theatre Source, 177 MacDougal Street.

Rooftops-A dystopic look at economic incongruence

Richard Foreman, avant-garde theatre icon, has said about Wreckio Ensemble, "I believe these young artists show immense promise, and I believe they can make an important contribution to American theater."

Helen Shaw from The New York Sun agreed, "with abundant physical humor and a generous social idea at its core, the Wreckio Ensemble proves itself more than a flash in the pan" on Wreckio Ensemble's production of Wrestling Porcelain.

In the midst of this country's financial crisis, Rooftops confronts the economic divide present in American society, while also challenging important women-centric issues such as reproductive rights and violence against women.

Wreckio Ensemble has been analogous with current events previously, "as Gravediggers spirals out its often absurd, frequently dark, sometimes slapstick, always biting tale, one comes to see frightening parallels to recent events in this country." - Andy Propst, American Theater Web

I would like to invite you to see the Wreckio Ensemble perform Rooftops with "solid ensemble work...Their individual strengths maintain the integrity of the whole." - Gregg Bellon, nytheater.com

ROOFTOPS will play a four-week limited engagement at The Milagro at Clemente Soto VĂ©lez Cultural Center (107 Suffolk Street, New York, NY 10002). Performances begin Thursday, March 5 and continue through to Saturday, March 28. Opening Night is Saturday, March 7 (8 p.m.).

Tickets are $20 and are now available online at www.wreckio.com or by calling 917-626-1369. Tickets may also be purchased in-person at the theater’s box office ½ hour prior to the performance.

An impressive pedigree of talent in Dog Run Rep's Tartuffe

Jeff Cohen, in addition to being a masterful director, has a keen eye for talent. He is known for unearthing unknown people, as he did with Laura Linney when she had her New York Stage debut in the 1990 production of his adaption of The Seagull. Additionally, he has helped launch the careers of such highly touted young playwrights as Christopher Shinn (Four), Hilary Bettis (American Girls) and Tristine Skyler (The Moonlight Room), and actors Michael Ealy (Barbershop), Ella Joyce (Roc) and Kathryn Hahn (“Crossing Jordan”).

In Cohen's upcoming Tartuffe he is doing it again: Christina DeCicco, playing sexy, flapper-wife Elmire, was Glinda in the National Tour of Wicked and has won a Barrymore Award and a “Philly” Award, is making her NY stage debut. Cohen has called DeCicco the "prize of the production". She has an impressive pedigree but is yet unknown by NY critics.

Keith Buterbaugh as Orgon, the rich man who gets swindled, was in the hit Broadway revival of Company and was also in Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera. And, finally, playing the swindler Tartuffe is the hilarious Tom Ford (not the fashion designer) whose credits include the Broadway and National Tour production of By Jeeves.

In the intimate setting of @Seaport, see these actors' raw talent first hand.

Check Out Zack Calhoon's review of MUCH ADO

"[Mac] Brydon
's utter physical ease and verbal dexterity made the audience instantly enamored of him. Brydon is matched by Ms. [Elizabeth] Zins's stirring performance as Beatrice."

"Ms. [Cotton] Wright plays Hero with vigour, making her a full bodied character that radiates youth and innocence which was a welcome change of pace from the wallflower portrayals of the part I've seen in past productions."

"Walter Brandes
turns in one of the finest performances of his career as Don Pedro."

Tartuffe is one of Moliere’s funniest and most controversial comedies. Although it was banned by the Church and led to the playwright’s imprisonment, Moliere, as he did in many of his comedies, wrote the play as an indictment of the bourgeoisie, not religion.

According to director and adapter Jeff Cohen, Tartuffe is a swindler who could have donned the mantle of any role to dupe his victims. That he picked religion in this instance is due to how easily his bourgeois victim – Orgon – is duped by his pious charade. It is Orgon who Moliere is bent on skewering, not the Church.

Jeff Cohen’s new American adaptation, written in verse and rhyming couplets, sets the play in New York City in an earlier depression-era - the 1930s. His adaptation seeks to employ a particularly American idiom - transposing Moliere's social satire to its American equivalent. In our own present time of outlandish wealth, dashed fortunes, and George Madoff-like swindlers, what better era to look back on than the Great Depression of the 1930s. Moliere spun his comedy from the stock characters of Commedia, and Mr. Cohen spins his from the golden era of American comedians and films.
